4 - Cotton Fabrics - c) Cotton Greige Fabric
(Auto Loom and Power Loom)
📌 Description
Cotton greige fabric, also known as "grey" or "loom-state" fabric, is the raw, unfinished textile that comes straight off the loom without any bleaching, dyeing, or finishing treatments. Made from natural cotton fibers, greige fabric retains its original off-white to beige hue and has a slightly coarse texture, reflecting its unprocessed state.
🧶 Fabric Construction:
Weave: Typically plain weave (can be twill or canvas for heavier weights)
Unfinished: No mercerization, softening, or preshrinking
Texture: Slightly stiff/starchy (softens after washing)
Available in various weaves such as plain weave, twill, or satin, commonly woven on shuttle or air-jet looms.
Finish: None (unmercerized, unsanforized)
Handfeel: Stiff initially, softens with processing
